June 2, 2023
The party arrived in Elysia with the two captured ships in tow. The arrival of the elven ship and the prince onboard granted them swift and free harbor. The prince invited the party to join him at the palace to help explain the situation that they had all run into, as well as to collect their reward for capturing the ships and captains.
At the palace, the regents made a formal declaration of war on the Smoke Faction.

The party worked with the elven captain, and Warford was able to persuade them to give him (and the party) the bounty for both ships and captains. The elves were from Hunan but were headed to Knossos, a protectorate of Hunan that lies closer to Amalek. Since Knossos had a large port city, the party decided that they could stop there to turn in the ships and restock their own stores.

The trio of ships were distracted by their battle, giving the party an opportunity to get close and investigate the situation. To help their approach, Warford used an artifact to temporarily turn the entire ship invisible. This let the group get a better look and confirm that the black-sailed ships were in fact under the control of the smoke knights while the silver ship was crewed by elves.
With their adversaries’ allegiance confirmed, they worked to formulate a plan.

While the party surveyed the situation, a portal opened with a flash and a rakshasa stepped out. He shouted and pointed, causing the hags to circle up around the avatar of the goddess. He then disappeared through the same portal, and the hags’ ritual grew frantic.
Eager to put an end to the corruption, and seeing their foes grouped together, Berelth and Thelmivor jumped on their brooms and darted forward without consulting the others in the party.

With the party separated and ambushed, they had no way of knowing what was happening to the others.
Berelth crushed the four cultists with his Instant Fortress, which also partially destroyed the temple section he was in. Knowing something was wrong, he moved farther into the temple, taking care not to be seen.
Joanna returned to the manor to see if anyone else had made it there yet. She discovered that she was the only party member there, although there was an odd scent in Rydel’s room that made her very drowsy.

The new 5th head started using 4 dead necks and heads as whips or tentacles to attack and defend itself. Although it had been trapped by the webbing that caught the other 4 heads, a quick outward slash freed the false hydra while also heavily damaging Joanna and Ulfberht. Once freed, the false hydra quickly fled back underground. As it did so, the hole it went down partially collapsed inward, causing the pillar in that corner of the pavilion to crumble as well.

Upon Berelth’s return from reaching out to his family network, he felt that the party was owed an explanation. He quickly dismissed a disguise he had been using to appear like an elderly human, revealing himself to be in the body of a Warforged. He explained that this wasn’t his original body, and that he had been “exiled” from Amalek by way of an attempted assassination. He doesn’t know how he ended up in his current body, although he did know that it was created by the gnome artificer that Joanna was originally guarding.

The captured smoke knight was brought to the manor for more private questioning. Warford departed to check on the condition of the ship, and Berelth left to send a message to follow up on the information the Owlin had given him in the tunnels. The smoke knight did try to poison himself with a concealed pellet, but Ulfberht spared him from death and forced him to vomit the pill he had swallowed.
