Amalek

General Info #

Amalek is a large nation in the north of the world, bordering the Land of Dragons. Its capital is Amalur.

The economy of Amalek is made up of merchant and marine activity. The nation is mainly known for its silver mines, as well as sapphires and (to a lesser extent) emeralds.

Amalek’s population is mostly humans, although other races are present and accepted. Elves and halflings make up the majority of non-human races, and there are a few communities of Aaracocra and Tabaxi within its borders. Amalek uses a caste system with rigid roles for its population, and any advancement is strictly merit-based.

The main school of magic used in Amalek is Divination, although other schools (including necromancy) are accepted or tolerated within its borders. Necromancy is not tolerated at all within the royal province, however.

History #

The early ancestors ofo Amalek destroyed the draco lich from the Land of Dragons. The draco lich had settled in former Arcosian lands and become a threat to the nation. This partially explains the zero tolerance for necromancy in the royal province.

Amalek was prevented from expanding farther east by Prince Zelerephon, Neb-Shamak III of Ankh, who kept both Amalek and Arcosia in check 300 years prior.

It is believed that the royal line of Amalek descended from steel dragons, and that the blood of dragons still runs in the family.

Politics #

Amalek’s politics are controlled by several noble houses, each with their own specialty. One house has been the leading house for centuries now, and while they are not treated as king they do have the final say in political matters.

Amalek is currently in the middle of a discreet civil war due to the youth of its ruler. The prior king’s 12-year-old son succeeded him to the throne 2 years ago at his request. However, the king’s brother thought that he would be a better ruler, and had the support of some houses to back him up. The divide between the son’s inexperience and the uncle’s warmongering tendencies have quietly split the nation, and a war in the shadows has been raging for over a year now.

The faction supporting the uncle is known as the Knights of Smoke, while the faction backing the son is the Knights of Mist. Many houses are not united, including House Tesso - the merchant house also known to do Amalek’s dirty work. This means that the battle of espionage has been brought to new heights, with misdirection and manipulation leading the forefront of battle.
